Managing Epilepsy in Pregnancy
In this presentation, Page B. Pennell, MD, discusses how to manage epilepsy in pregnancy with anti-seizure medicines and other treatment strategies.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify which anti-seizure medicines are associated with the lowest rates of major congenital malformations
- Identify which anti-seizure medicines have been associated with lower verbal IQ and higher rates of autism
- Recall treatment strategies to keep women with epilepsy safe from seizure worsening during pregnancy and postpartum periods
- Recognize which anti-seizure medicines do not have adequate reproductive safety data to provide evidence-based counseling to women with epilepsy.
